Task Overview

The Great Unknown – though emerging digital technologies are not usually a complete surprise out in the future as we see new paradigms take shape and IT shift and alter current ways of working or influence innovative ideas and actions. Innovation and innovative solutions designed and implemented that we can all learn from and see how they deal with the present challenges or solve today’s problems. You need to put on your consultant hat in this task, consider a potential emerging digital technology related disruption and present your case notes or body of work to a group of industry representatives. For example, there are disruptions coming into focus including advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), evolving 5G capabilities and its continued rollout, and Mixed Reality (MR) devices or eXtended Reality (XR) experiences more broadly. Choose one of these emerging digital technologies areas. Given your knowledge, understanding and consultancy expertise as a leader in exploring, working, and familiarising yourself with emerging technologies, you have an eager business wanting to learn more. Include considerations on how future project teams will need, or could continue to work, business and individual changes and impacts, and an innovation that could result from the disruption, or needed to help business or societies deal with what will be occurring.

Task Instructions
Emerging digital technologies provide clues on what is happening and possible through IT/ICT systems and innovation. Their introduction could cause transformations to take place, however, on a larger scale, these innovations may trigger digital disruptions.

Your role in a consultancy-like capacity is to advise and assist businesses who are facing, or impacted by one of these emerging digital technologies – AI and ML, 5G or MR. To assist as a consultant in this scenario engaging with industry representatives, you may choose to focus on an IT area you are currently studying, one you have started to explore, or that you are interested in/enthusiastic about from an emerging technologies perspective.

Make sure you:
1. Describe and explain how to manage project teams and execute and deliver projects, and how diverse teams collaborate and work together in teams across the global community
2. Describe and explain how your chosen example/s of emerging digital technology may disrupt and impact specific industries or members of society
3. Identify what innovations are necessary to address the disruption, or what potential innovations the disruption brings. Explain how the business will work differently based on this.
4. Identify and describe how industry and society can both win with these innovations to help reassure the client.

You need to present a body of work that demonstrates your research and insight into the future and into a digital technologies innovation and how it can interact within businesses and society. This work can involve technical contributions or exemplars to illustrate design or development aspects as part of the innovation and your innovative ideas stemming from the emerging digital technology.
